Two area high school baseball coaches have been selected to be inducted into the Ohio Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2026. The induction is set to take place Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Dayton Convention Center. They include Frank Gamble (Perry) and Curt Hensley (Carrollton).
Frank Gamble is one of the winningest coaches in Ohio, having won over 600 games. Fifty of his players have gone on to play collegiately. Frank formerly served as President of the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association and was inducted in 1998 into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Frank has coached a total of 39 years as a head baseball coach for area schools Tuslaw and Perry and he continues to coach at Jackson as an assistant varsity baseball coach to his son, Bill. Jackson has won the Federal League Baseball championship each of the last 5 years with Frank serving as the third base coach. Frank has also coached collegiately as an assistant coach at Furman University in South Carolina for 3 years and at Wooster College for 5 years. He also served as the head football coach at Tuslaw for 4 years and assisted at Jackson, Perry and Sandy Valley for 29 years. Frank also served as Perry’s athletic director for 17 years and is a member of the 2026 Perry Athletic Hall of Fame Class.
Curt Hensley served 23 years as Carrollton’s head baseball coach between 1978-2000. Curt accumulated 360 wins during that time. He won 8 league titles and had 5 teams ranked in the top 10 of the final state poll. They also played in 3 regional baseball tournaments during that span. Curt formerly served as President of the Eastern District Baseball Coaches Association and was inducted into the Eastern District Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2005. Curt was named Eastern District Baseball Coach of the Year in 2000. He also was a 7 time League Coach of the Year for the Senate and NBC baseball leagues. In 1994, Curt spearheaded the 3 field complex of ballfields which includes the present high school baseball & softball fields. The Carrollton High School baseball field was honored by “High School Baseball Fields of America” in March 2024 as one of the Central United States top natural surface high school baseball fields in America. In 2011, Carrollton Schools named the high school baseball field “Hensley Field” in Curt’s honor. Curt was a 1969 graduate of Perry High School and played on Perry’s 1968 & 1969 Federal Baseball Championship teams.
